If you have ever been confused by too many class 2/II's (or wondered who's idea it was to have two, I mean both) then you are not alone. Let me see if I can shed some light on this.
Class II refers to power supplies with an additional reinforced insulation barrier. Class II does not rely on an earth pin to protect against shock hazzard. Most Wallplug and many Desktop Power Supplies are Class II.
Class 2 is a UL1310 Classification and they fall under the guidance of the NEC - National Electric Code. They must not exceed 60VDC or 100 VA. Class 2 supplies are often used for indoor and outdoor lighting and sign applications.
